Chennai: Nothing is impossible to a willing heart. This proverb has been proven right once again by Aashika Treesa Saju, a grade 12 student of Sishya School, Adyar, who topped the Tamil Nadu State ISC examination by scoring 98 per cent marks.

"I knew I had done well, but was not expecting to be a State topper," a surprised Aashika said.

She scored full marks in Mathematics, 99 in Computer Science, 98 in Physics and 95 in Chemistry and English.

"Focus and the blessing of Almighty," she says, are the key to her success.

Susha Saju, her mother, said that she believed her daughter would score good marks, but did not expect her to be the topper the state.

"She had been systematic in her studies; but pushed herself to her best of abilities in the last few months prior to board exams. She had an avid grasping power from her young age," says her elated father Saju Chacko, a native of Thrissur.

Talking about her future plans, she said, "I was never interested in engineering or getting into IIT. The logical aspect of computer programming has always attracted me."

Aashika, the school head girl, is not a bookworm. She is instead an all-rounder who dabbles with dancing, heads the school interact club and is a delegate and moderator in the mock UN representing her school.

Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim scared of Modi, flees Karachi

New Delhi: Fearing Narendra Modi, India's most-wanted don, Dawood Ibrahim, has relocated himself to an unknown location close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, which is under the Taliban. 


The report says that Dawood is apprehensive of Modi's intention and feras a commando style operation, similar to the US raid in Abbottabad, which killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. 

Fearing this, the underworld don has changed his base and asked the Pakistan's ISI to enhance his security.

It's not only Dawood who has done the vanishing act, even many members of his gang in Mumbai have pulled out of the metropolis. 

Though the police is under the Congress-NCP-led Maharashtra government, central agencies can pick up people suspected of links with terror networks and organised crime.

Former director of Intelligence Bureau Ajit Doval yesterday met PM-elect Modi and gave him a brief on security challenges facing the country.

Modi is expected to seek help of 69-year-old Doval, who gave an insight to the BJP leader about the threats that exist within and from outside the country.

WhatsApp & Facebook addiction drives 'love' marriage to divorce

New Delhi: Addiction to WhatsApp landed a woman in trouble as her husband sought divorce after he suspected her of infidelity due to her obsession to WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter.


The case was reported from Agra on Sunday.

According to a report in Amarujala, the couple had met two years ago. They fell in love and decided to get married. 

One year later, the relationship turned sour.

Her husband complained before the counselors that she chats with her friends on WhatsApp till 3 am in the morning.

He also claimed that she remains online on Twitter and Facebook for hours and when she sees him online, she goes offline.

As a result, she has stopped talking to her in-laws and doing the household chores.

Meanwhile, the woman said that her husband was suspicious about her. Even her in-laws would taunt her often and hence she did not want to stay with them anymore.

Inspite of counseling sessions, the couple refused to sort out the problem and filed for divorce.

With only his swimsuit model girlfriend Irina Shayk to protect his modesty, the Real Madrid forward strikes a hand-on-hip, scour pose that would make Zoolander deeply envious.

Other shots published via the VogueEspana Twitter account show Ronaldo flaunting his hours of training shirtless on a rug as he wrestles with Shayk’s handily loose trousers.

A third sees him brave sartorial territories that, frankly, no man ever should: super-tight white jeans and not a lot else.

Facebook to roll out 'I'm a Voter' feature worldwide

When Americans voted to renew President Barack Obama's lease on the White House in November 2012, more than 9 million citizens took to Facebook to click the "I'm a Voter" button, showing their online friends that they had cast a ballot.

The social media site plans to offer versions of the feature around the world for a slate of national elections this year, the company said on Monday.

The feature was available for voters in India as the world's largest democracy chose a new prime minister, Narendra Modi, in voting over recent weeks. Over 4 million Indian voters used the "I'm a Voter" button during the country's parliamentary elections, Facebook said.

For Facebook, this is another effort to integrate its services into the everyday life of people around the globe as it seeks to increase its number of users, particularly in emerging markets.

The button will appear for voters in next week's European Parliament and Colombian elections, and for citizens in South Korea, Indonesia, Sweden, Scotland, New Zealand, and Brazil later this year. It will also appear again for Americans, during November's midterm congressional elections.

By clicking the button, users broadcast their status as a voter to their network of friends, but do not reveal how their vote was cast.

Previewing the feature's worldwide roll-out, Facebook said it estimates nearly 400 million people will see the message in their news feeds this year - more than one third of its roughly 1.1 billion active users.

A 2012 study in scientific journal Nature found that in the United States' 2010 midterm elections, 340,000 additional citizens voted after seeing that their friends had clicked the button to indicate they had cast a ballot.

That election heralded the rise of the conservative Tea Party movement for smaller government, as Republicans swept into office and claimed the US House of Representatives from Democrats.

"There is a real social multiplier effect," said Andy Stone, a spokesman in Facebook's Washington office. "When people see on Facebook that their friends have voted, they themselves are motivated to vote."

Facebook shares were at $59.28, up 2 percent, in late US trading.

Veerappan's wife Mutthulakshmi to narrate her hubby's tale on celluloid

    Popular Kannada actress Pooja Gandhi (left) will play the role of Veerappan's         widow Muthulakshmi (top) in the film.
Movies on forest brigand Veerappan have been made in Kannada and Tamil. But now, for the first time, the sandalwood smuggler's widow Mutthulakshmi is all set to reveal the 'real version' of Veerappan on the big screen.

Popular Kannada actress Pooja Gandhi, who has also acted in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies, will reprise the role of Mutthulakshmi in the movie titled by the same name. The movie will be shot from later this month.

Apparently, Mutthulakshmi had penned her life story and she was looking for a suitable film-maker to narrate it on the big screen. Last year, a trilingual movie based on Veerappan's life 'Attahasa' was released, but Mutthulakshmi had objected to it, contending that the movie did not stick to facts. She had even dragged the film-maker to the court.

"Pooja Gandhi's team listened to my story. She has agreed to bring it out as it is on the big screen. I have faith in her. She is the perfect actress to represent my story in a movie. I will be actively involved in the making of the movie," Mutthulakshmi said.

After marrying Veerappan, Mutthulakshmi had stayed with him in the forests. The police had booked cases against her for some of the crimes committed by Veerappan. Following a long legal battle, she had been acquitted in most of the cases. Mutthulakshmi, now a mother of two, lives in Salem, Tamil Nadu.

One of the top film stars of south India, Pooja Gandhi has acted in more than 30 movies. She even had an unsuccessful stint in politics after losing the Assembly polls in Karnataka last year. The actress had won several awards for the portrayal of a negative character in Kannada-Telugu movie 'Dandupalya' (based on real life incidents involving the Dandupalya gang).


Bus fare hike comes into effect

Thiruvananthapuram: Bus fare rates have been increased by about 11 per cent in the state. The minimum fare is now Rs 7.

The hike came into effect from Monday night. There are eight different services and the fare hike is applicable to all of them.

The low-floor buses running in the city are exempted from the fare hike and the students concession rates will also not reflect any change.

Ordinary service, city services, mofussil services and so on fall in the first category whose fares have been hiked with immediate effect. They charge Rs 7 now.

The other seven sections that will see a fare hike are city fast, fast passenger/limited stop fast, super fast, super express, super deluxe/semi-sleeper, luxury hi-tech AC, and volvo. The charge hike ranges from 9.7 per cent to 12.5 per cent.

The rates were fixed after a primary examination of Justice Ramachandran committee's report. Gazette advertising was done on Monday and a detailed report on the student's concession would be shared by Justice Ramachandran at the earliest.

She Taxi launched in Kochi

Kochi: The Kerala Government will extend all possible support for further expansion of the She Taxi service, owned and operated by women entrepreneurs for women travellers, to more cities in the state, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday said.

"The initiative was a big success in Thiruvananthapuram. The government allotted special parking lots for She Taxis in the state capital," he said officially launching the service here.

He applauded the Department of Social Justice for taking up this venture which, he said, "has become a women empowerment model for countries across the globe to emulate."

"The She Taxi has grabbed global attention after its successful introduction in Thiruvanathapuram. Even authorities in the UAE are actively looking at the possibility of similar cab services for women," said Panchayats and Social Justice Minister Dr M K Muneer, who presided over the function.

"Initially, Kochi will have a fleet of ten cabs. Soon we will have She Taxis in Kozhikode. We are planning to roll out 250 She Taxi cabs in all major cities across the state," Dr Muneer said.

"I am extremely happy to know that the She Taxi, which started with just five cabs in Thiruvananthapuram, has become a huge success among women. I am proud to be the goodwill ambassador of this unique project," said popular actress Manju Warrier.

Later, the Chief Minister along with Manju Warrier and other dignitaries flagged off the first service.

The project, conceived and implemented by The Gender Park under the aegis of the Department of Social Justice, is being extended to Kochi after its success in Thiruvanathapuram where it was launched in November last year.
