Draft notification on Kasturirangan prepared
New Delhi: The Union Environment Ministry has prepared the draft notification of the Kasturirangan report for the conservation of the Western Ghats.
The Ministry, however, declined to announce the content of the draft notification as it was sent for the approval of the Law Ministry. Sources said the draft notification would be announced once it gets the nod from the Law Ministry.
Union Environment Secretary R. Rajagopalan has told reporters that the draft notification has been prepared after considering the concerns raised by Kerala.
When asked about the November 23 notification, R. Rajagopalan said the Ministry had considered all those apprehensions before preparing the draft notification.
The National Green Tribunal has set March 24 as deadline to the Central government for preparing the draft notification based on the recommendations of the Kasturirangan report on Western Ghats conservation.
The Western Ghats straddle the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
