Breaking Milestone To "KATHI"

Posted by Trueline Radio | Saturday, November 15, 2014 | Posted in ,

Tamil cinema celebrated it's Silver Jubilee in recent days. That days all gone now. There was a time when movies ran for 100 days or even more than that. In those days, not so long ago though, people used to make a movie in 50 days and its theatrical run at times went beyond 175 days. It is probably the vice verse now with the makers taking close to 175 days to complete a movie and only a blockbuster movie is able to achieve the coveted 50 day mark in theaters.

In such a competitive scenario, Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Kaththi has managed to cross its victorious 25 days run today (15th November) in notable number of screens. As we all know the movie is already a blockbuster and it is fascinating to know that it attracts the audience even after a solid 4 week run at the theaters.

Congrats to Vijay, ARM and team.

New Hottie in B-Town, Priyanka Chopra’s cousin

Posted by Unknown | Wednesday, November 5, 2014 | Posted in ,

Priyanka Chopra’s first cousin Mannara who makes her debut in Bollywoodwith Anubhav Sinha’s ‘ZID’.

Barbie Handa is Priyanka Chopra’s first cousin, who is now all set to make her silver screen debut in Anubhav Sinha’s Barbie, in order to be walking with the times, has now rechristened herself as Manaara, courtesy, Anubhav Sinha. Speaking about the name change, Sinha reasoned that Barbie was too childish a name for a grown-up girl. He added that Manaara also happens to be her nickname. Seconding his thoughts was Barbie herself… we mean… Manaara herself, who said that she liked the very name Manaara, which means a Greek word for ‘something that shines’.

Manaara is making news for multiple reasons and one of them being the film’s dare-bare posters which features her. Explaining which she says, since we are in 2014, she can’t be in a veil (‘ghoonghat’). When asked for her sister Priyanka’s reaction to the posters, Manaara was quick to reply that prior to the poster shoot, she had called up Priyanka Chopra (who was in Barcelona at that time) and she gave her nod for the same, but with a condition that she had to ensure that it’s done aesthetically and didn’t look sleazy.

Zid is slated for a release on 28th November and is creating quite a buzz amongst the who’s who of B-Town.

Over 3,500 babies born in hospitals in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir

Posted by Unknown | Tuesday, September 23, 2014 | Posted in ,

Srinagar: More than 3,500 babies were born in government hospitals in Kashmir at the peak of devastating floods that affected most of the tertiary care hospitals in the Valley.

Nearly 2,300 normal deliveries and 1,260 Caesarean sections were conducted from September 4 to 20 in various hospitals of Kashmir, which were functional during this period, an official spokesman said on Tuesday.

The spokesman said statistics now available show that 5,77,595 patients came to the OPDs in all the district hospitals across the Kashmir Valley during the fortnight ending September 20.

"Nearly 34,600 patients were admitted for treatment while 1,435 major surgeries and 1,03,160 lab tests were conducted at these hospitals," he said.

During this period, 145 medical camps were set up, including 62 in Srinagar city, and essential medicine was provided in most of the areas, the spokesman said.

Despite having suffered losses to the tune of Rs 100 crore, the SMHS Hospital authorities set up a free medical camp in which patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension and other chronic ailments were given consultation and treatment.

The Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla was made functional immediately after the floods. The out patient department of Lal Ded and G B Pant hospitals have been made functional after water was drained out and clean up operations conducted yesterday.

Modi to stay at US President’s official guest house

Posted by Unknown | | Posted in ,

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister in over a decade to stay at the U.S. President’s guest house — the 190-year-old Blair House — when he travels to Washington on September 29.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the last one to stay at the guest house.

“Built as a private home in 1824, Blair House has played an important role in nearly 190 years of American political, diplomatic and cultural history— from Andrew Jackson’s `Kitchen Cabinet’, to private chats with Abraham Lincoln, to Harry S Truman’s crucial leadership as World War II ended and the Cold War began.

“Now, as then, U.S. Presidents continue to rely on Blair House as a significant foreign policy tool,” as per the official information.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh never stayed in the Blair House and always preferred a hotel during his U.S. visits.

The Blair House is the designated guest house of the U.S. president where all his state guests are traditionally known to have stayed.

Located across from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, Blair House has served as the President’s Guest House since its purchase by the U.S. government in World War II and under the stewardship of the Department of State, it welcomes visiting heads of states and other top dignitaries.

In New York, Mr. Modi, like Dr. Singh, will stay at the New York Palace Hotel in Manhattan when he arrives on September 26 late afternoon.

His first public engagement next day would be a visit to Ground Zero, the site of the World Trade Centre which was destroyed in the terror attacks by al-Qaeda in 2001 followed by a visit to the 9/11 Memorial Museum built in the honour of the victims of 2001 attacks.

Mr. Modi will then proceed towards the United Nations to deliver the speech at the General Assembly, scheduled in the first half of the day.

The Prime Minister will then have a series of bilateral meetings including one with his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina.

In the evening, Mr. Modi is scheduled to visit the Central Park where he will attend Global Citizen festival.

Couple married on top of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak

Posted by Unknown | | Posted in ,

Tanzania's tourism authorities on Monday commended two American nationals for exchanging wedding vows on Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro.

This came a day after the two American nationals - Richard Miller and Sara Lee - exchanged the vows on Mount Kilimanjaro, located in the northern part of Tanzania to fulfil their long-time dream, Xinhua reported.

Pascal Shelutete, a spokesperson of Tanzania National Parks (Tanapa), described the event as unique and which needs to be emulated by other stakeholders in the tourism industry and ordinary people in and outside the East African nation.

"We have never experienced such a wedding held on Mount Kilimanjaro," Shelutete said.

Cyril Akko, executive officer of the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO), also hailed the move which is unique in Tanzania's history.

He said: "The event is going to be a catalyst that would promote Tanzania's tourist destinations across the globe."

"Sometime back, during last Christmas in Minnesota, United States of America, we had an engagement event with my hubby Richard Miller and committed ourselves that the wedding event must be done on the roof top of Africa and this is none other than Mt. Kilimanjaro," Lee said.

"Thereafter, we started planning for this historic and unique event by raising money for our trip to Tanzania and in particular Mt Kilimanjaro," she said, noting that their parents and other relatives were aware of the wedding plan.

Google work with Government to support PM Modi's vision of 'Digital India'

Google on Monday said that it was collaborating with the government to support and enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for 'Digital India'. The company said that as part of the plan, it would run a number of campaigns in collaboration with the Indian government.

The noteworthy among these programmes are:

  • MyGov, the citizen engagement platform of the government, and Google will soon launch contest to develop a mobile app for the PM's Office. Google claimed that the "mobile app will bring the PMO to every citizen and the contest will showcase how Indians can build a world class app".

  • Google would build a multi -language ecosystem on the web to help the government transition into the increasingly 'mobile' India.

  •  The company will push programmes like Helping Women get Online and getting Indian SMEs Online in a bid to promote the digital empowerment of citizens. It will also continue to map and photograph heritage and culture sites to bring them online.

  • To encourage digital literacy and Internet safety, Google will introduce curriculums for schools, officials and elected representatives.

While announcing the initiative, R S Sharma, secretary of the Department of Information Technology said, "The Digital India Program has been launched with the vision of transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. It can truly transform India and bring it on par with other developed countries. I'm happy Google is coming forward to roll out initiatives that will contribute to the Digital India vision. I'm sure others will come forward and join this movment."

Rajan Anandan, vice president and managing director of Google India, added: "India is already home to the 3rd largest number of internet users globally with 245 million users as of June 2014. We are on track to become the 2nd largest user market by 2015 and a 500 million-user market by 2016. Yet, there are more than a billion people who will need to be brought online for India to realize the vision of a digitally connected, knowledge economy. Prime Minister Modi's Digital India program will play a transformational role in achieving this."

Latest battleground for 'Love Jihad': We are garba-ing, no Muslims please

Posted by Unknown | Wednesday, September 17, 2014 | Posted in ,

The latest battleground for the so-called "love jihad" are garba halls in Godhra

Bhai, what is this “love jihad”?

“Arre hai kiya? Humein nahin maloom, (What is it? I don’t know it) ” Home MinisterRajnath Singh tells the media with a smile.

Digvijaya Singh promptly writes an open letter to the minister asking him to brush up on his reading of RSS mouthpieces Panchjanya and Organizer. “The cover stories are on love jihad,” says Singh.

Or Rajnath Singh could just go to Garba nights in Godhra. Or Indore.

Apparently that’s the newest battleground for love jihad.

According to the Indian Express, the newly formed Hindu Asmita Hitrakshak Samiti will create a team of “volunteers” who will ensure no Muslim youth can get inside a garba venue this Navratri though a Muslim councilor in Godhra insists he has got invitations every year and these directives from “unelected” people were “baseless”.

However Jaimin Shah, a member of the Samiti is clear. “Why should they be so keen on participating in garbas? They do so to lure Hindu girls. We are here to oppose such intrusions and stop them,” Shah tells Indian Express.

Shah does not explain what irresistible charm these Muslim garba-crashers wield to seduce Hindu women right in the middle of a big dance hall while surrounded by throngs of festive gaily caparisoned Hindu men. Were they hitting on the twirling women while the men were lining up for plates of khandvi and dhokla?

Shah did say the presence of Muslims “made no sense” at a religious event for “our wives, daughters and sisters”. Even last year the organizers had asked around half a dozen Muslim men to leave the venue.

Were they causing a ruckus? They “might” have created a nuisance says Shah.

When it comes to garba-poaching, pre-emptive measures are very important.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad, led by Praveen Togadia has blessed the endeavour.Togadia has demanded that ID cards of participants be checked at all garba venues.

“Navratri is the festival of Mother Amba’s prayers and worship, so we cannot allow beef-eating Muslims to enter into garba places," says Togadia. No word about beef-eating Christians or for that matter beef-eating Hindus.

Togadia who has a long history of crossing swords with Modi clearly relishes fishing in troubled waters. He wants to bait and draw out Modi more than anything else. Godhra remains potent shorthand for the starting point of the 2002 bloodbath after 58 Hindu pilgrims returning from Ayodhya were burned in a train there. As PM Modi tries to put 2002 well behind him, Togadia would like nothing better than to try and bring Godhra back into the spotlight and an inflammatory decree trying to ban Muslims from Garba is just the ticket. It’s not about banning Muslims from Garba, it’s about the idea of it.

But while Rajnath Singh can coyly feign ignorance about “love jihad”, other BJP politicians are happy to rush in where Singh fears to tread.

The Daily Bhaskar reports that Indore’s BJP MLA Usha Thakur is planning to write to all garba organizers in the state asking them to “restrict entry of Muslim men to the dance venues and seducing women”. Thakur alleges nearly 4.5 lakh Hindu girls got converted last year during the garba festival. Wherever she gets this number from, this points to an urgent need, more than anything else, for the Hindu Asmita Hitrakshak Samity to invest more energy in Romancing 101 workshops for Hindu men.

The Congress leader Manish Tewari tells ANI that the “synchretic culture of India” is strengthened when we participate in each other’s festivals. We can be skeptical about whether young Muslim men, if they do indeed show up at Garba festivals, are there for an interfaith project of synchretic nation-building or just to have fun and yes, watch women dancing. But ogling is hardly a character trait unique to Muslims men. Or is it that during Garba, Hindu men only look at the dancing women fondly as maa-behen-beti while their Muslim counterparts are making their chhupa Rustam moves?

This would all be utterly ludicrous if it was not becoming used as a political organizing tool. The beauty of the love jihad conspiracy is it does not really need facts and figures. Like all good conspiracies it thrives on rumour and anecdote. BJP leaders Shahnawaz Khan and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi might be married to Hindus but there’s always a counter example like that of Tara Shadeo and Ranjit Kumar Kohli/Raqibul Hasan Khan to keep the conspiracy fires stoked.

Love jihad conspiracy theorists are also quick to trot out the story of a sex scandal in Britain from 2010 where a group of Pakistani men were found guilty of sexually exploiting teenaged white girls some as young as 12, many from troubled homes, in the town of Rotherham by plying them with gifts of alcohol, drugs and gifts. This was an abominable sex abuse story now being dressed up as Exhibit A in the Love Jihad conspiracy. But it was a horrendous sex trafficking racket, nowhere close to a proselytization mission to marry women from another religion under false pretexts and turn them into good Muslim wives. The authorities said they were slow to act because of political correctness, afraid of being perceived as racist. That argument wears a little thin after 1400 girls fall prey to this racket over 16 years and the Guardian says that’s also to cover up for a “cozy indifferent bureaucracy” with their “own prejudices about the poor”.

“Like all slanders, 'love jihad' works best in places where communal violence has already stoked distrust and hostility,” writes Mukul Kesavan on NDTV. He says it’s not a “coincidence” that after the Muzaffarnagar riots an allegation that used to be part of the “Parivar’s lunatic fringe” is now “the BJP’s favourite meme.” And Amit Shah can bothcall it a “media creation” and at the same says there is nothing wrong with the BJP responding to “a grave social problem” in “genuine cases of injustice”.

In short, you can deny your love jihad and have it too.

The UP by-election smack for the BJP is not a referendum on Modi who is now safely PM but it is hopefully a comment on that kind of wink-and-nudge divide-and-rule policy using the likes of Yogi Adityanath. It hardly means the Samajwadi Party with an Azam Khan is the standard bearer of secular “synchretic” values but as Tavleen Singh notes on Twitter “The BJP could pay in U.P for changing the subject form 'vikas' to love jihad. The PM did not win a full mandate for Hindtuva.”

That lesson will likely not percolate to Hindu Asmita Hitrakshak Samiti or Usha Thakur who want to drag the politics of majoritarian victimhood inside the dance circle. And despite UP, Modi will not want to publicly smack down a Praveen Togadia and thus give him the recognition he craves. But someone should alert Modi to the annual Sheri Garba organized by the alumni association of St Xavier’s College spearheaded by folks like Shaunak Parikh and Naved Siddique.

It’s happening this year, as always, St Xavier’s College confirms to Firstpost and best of all it’s in the PM’s own backyard of Ahmedabad. Mr. Modi could even stop by and prove that sometimes a dance move can speak way louder than words.

US bombs Islamic State near Baghdad for the first time

Posted by Unknown | | Posted in ,

Paris: US warplanes carried out their first air strike on the Islamic State near Baghdad, as world diplomats pledged to support Iraq in its fight against the militants.

The United States early last month began air strikes against IS positions in northern Iraq, but yesterday's announcement that the campaign had targeted the jihadists near the Iraqi capital marks an escalation in the scope of the mission.

It comes less than a week after US President Barack Obama, in a primetime television address to the nation, ordered a "relentless" war against the Islamic State, including air strikes in Syria and expanded operations in Iraq to "destroy" the marauding jihadist army.

"US military forces continued to attack ISIL (IS) terrorists in Iraq, employing attack and fighter aircraft to conduct two air strikes Sunday and Monday in support of Iraqi security forces near Sinjar and southwest of Baghdad," US Central Command said in a statement.

"The air strike southwest of Baghdad was the first strike taken as part of our expanded efforts beyond protecting our own people and humanitarian missions to hit ISIL targets as Iraqi forces go on offense, as outlined in the president's speech last Wednesday."

The strikes destroyed six IS vehicles near Sinjar and an IS fighting position southwest of Baghdad that had been firing on Iraqi forces. They bring the number of US air strikes across Iraq to 162.

It came as representatives from about 30 countries and international organisations, including the United States, Russia and China, met in Paris to discuss the crisis triggered when IS overran large areas of Iraq and Syria, carrying out beheadings and forced religious conversions.

The savage beheading at the weekend of a Briton, the third Western hostage to be executed on camera, raised the stakes in the battle against the jihadists, who have declared a caliphate and have as many as 31,500 fighters, according to the CIA.

In a joint statement, diplomats vowed to support Baghdad "by any means necessary, including appropriate military assistance, in line with the needs expressed by the Iraqi authorities, in accordance with international law and without jeopardising civilian security."

Deepika Padukone vs TOI: Here's what the storm in the D-cup says about us

Posted by Unknown | | Posted in ,

Even as Deepika Padukone is talking about her new film Finding Fanny, the Times of India has “found” Deepika Padukone’s cleavage.

The “cleavage show” headline turned into a storm in a D-cup when Deepika hit back hard.

“Yes! I am a woman. I have breasts and a cleavage! You got a problem!!??” she shot back.

TOI tried damage control. Sort of.

"It's a compliment! You look so great that we want to make sure everyone knew! :)"

But sometimes a (presumably shame-faced) smiley isn’t enough. The non-apology just stirred the pot further. TOI pulled the story as more celebrities jumped into the Twitter fray.

Karan Johar was “appalled…shocked and disgusted.” Homi Adjania, her Finding Fannydirector called it “regressive shit”. Arjun Kapoor called it “ a new low”.

Not such a “new low” really.TOI had not that long ago already done a “nip slip” on the same Deepika Padukone.

Of course, it’s a little rich for Bollywood’s celeb brigade to put on an indignant #IStandWithDeepika act. It’s a path-leader when it comes to treating women as peek-a-boo commodities. If wrapping them in white sarees and dousing them in waterfalls and monsoon showers or hypersexualized item numbers were not enough, it has even turned rape into titillation and created stars who have built entire careers as filmi rapists. The rape counter might be lower in films these days than those old bachao bachao heaving bosom rape scenes but speaking of cleavage the film Grand Masti had strings of dialogues about darshan of "doodh factories” and erections setting off burglar alarms.

But that does not excuse the media either.

Our media wants to have it both ways. There are high-pedestal uplifting values of empowerment and fighting misogyny reserved for our front pages and op-ed pages. And even the film review page which will wag its fingers at movies for catering to the lowest common denominator. But the entertainment pages come with a wholly different standard – a booby trap.

Women empowerment and sensitivity are virtues we have discovered especially after the spurt of gang rapes and we emblazon them all over the front pages. We take politicians and khap panchayats to task for sexist comments and rightly so. It’s the media who piously gave the December gang rape victim the name Nirbhaya. All that is grist for front-page outrage. But in the entertainment pages we are still leering as we wonder choli ke peechhey kiya hai.

Deepika’s cleavage is just the latest example. And hardly the exception. The entertainment pages remain a bastion for almost everything retrograde.

A few days ago there was a photo slide show about Mix and Match celebrities entirely premised on fairer stars in relationships with darker stars which proved that “love is blind”. Clearly! Otherwise why would Shah Rukh Khan marry a dusky Gauri? These are the poster children of colour crusaders – “the most well-known and powerful duos who have sealed their relation despite the difference in colour.”

While the media comes down on Shah Rukh Khan for endorsing Fair and Handsome and wrings its hands about India’s never-ending love affair with skin whiteners, it sees no problems with creating a slide show about the complexion differences between Ajay Devgn and Kajol, Dhanush and Aishwarya, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri. Even more egregious, it throws interracial foreign couples like Naomi Campbell and her ex Vladimir Doronin into the mix as if a relationship across race lines (something that was taboo and even legally forbidden in the United States till Loving vs Virginia in 1967) is the same as a relationship across complexion tones.

Now that complete slide show seems blacked out – inadvertently adding a whole another layer of race baggage and colour blindspots to the entire sorry project.

Perhaps the much maligned British tabloids that splashed scantily-clad women and salacious sexy stories all over their front pages were more honest and upfront in a way. They made no pretence of virtue.

Stars are public figures and to some extent have to play a cat-and-mouse game with the media when it comes to their private affairs. They wear outfits at galas to draw attention and the media has every right to comment on it, diss it if they think it deserves dissing. Paparazzi went to town recently with pictures of what looked like an exceptionally well-endowed Idris Elba. They went utterly viral. Elba clarified the bulge was a mic wire not natural but joked “"Calvin Klein called my mobile, they want me in their next campaign.”

But there’s a difference between commenting and leering. What its “OMG! Cleavage show” headline actually revealed was that while the entertainment pages try to act very adult and mature, they are stuck in some kind of hormonal tee-hee-teenager mindset where cleavage becomes worthy of a headline simply because it’s cleavage and OMG it can be seen. It actually reveals more about our inherent prudishness than anything about our alleged permissiveness.

Media richly deserves to be called out on this especially because it spends so much energy calling others out on exactly this kind of sexist rubbish. Sometimes it needs to look into the mirror as well.

But then Humshakals where dwarves chomp on genitals, women are squeezed into absurdly short tight dresses and Riteish Deshmukh pretends he is a dog and dry humps an actor’s leg made Rs 40 crore in its opening weekend.

So the question for the rest of us is do we get the Grand Masti entertainment media we deserve?

Homeless After Kargil War, They Built a Home Again. Now That's Gone Too.

Posted by Unknown | Monday, September 15, 2014 | Posted in ,

JAMMU : This was not first time that Mohammed Riaz and 30 other families of Jammu's Gujjar Basti have turned homeless. Back in 1999, during the Kargil war, all these families had been uprooted from their homes in RS Pura. They had rebuilt their lives on the banks of the Tawi river. Now, they have lost everything all over again.

On September 6, when Tawi flooded its banks, these people just had to rush out of their homes to save their lives. There was no time to carry even the most basic items. A change of clothes. Or food.
Now, they are at the army's makeshift camp, depending on the free food. But even that stopped this morning when the langer was dismantled. Even by evening, they hadn't had a morsel.

Later a three-ton army truck came in, carrying rice, dal, chapati and vegetables - fulfilling army jawans' pledge to "help as long as they can". But there's not much they can do.

The army cannot be engaged in relief and rehabilitation for too long, since all training activities get suspended, which in turn, can hamper operational preparedness. After the first crush of a crisis is over, they hand over the operations to the state government.

For the camp inmates, uncertainty looms large. "Government officials came and took down our details, but they never came back," said Riyaz's wife Yasmin Akhtar.

But neither Riaz nor his family expect or want help from anyone -- least of all the state government.

"Had I been able to move, I could have worked as a labourer. Just pray that I get better and can work again," said Riaz, for whom the floods had come as a double calamity. A welder by profession, he had been rendered immobile by an accident three months ago

Then, there was Farooq Malik -- a portly man with a trimmed beard who used to run a diary. Most of his cattle have gone. So has his house. Today, he has another identity - "Chachu", a sobriquet bestowed by the 15-odd kids hanging onto his shirt-tails.

Chachu's concern showed: "Over the last 15 years we had built our houses. Now we have nothing again. But it is not about us or our homes alone. What about their education? Back in 1999, most of us did not have kids."

After Onam here problems awaiting Oommen Chandy

Posted by Unknown | | Posted in ,

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: UDF led Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is going to face a host of political and administrative problems during this post-Onam period.

One of the biggest problem that his government is facing is the financial crunch, which is all set to develop into a full-blown crisis as a result of a steep fall in revenues owing to the changes in the liquor policy.

Mr. Chandy and Finance Minister K.M. Mani have stated the government would tide over the crunch created by a heavy outflow of payments during the Onam season.

The major impact of the fund crunch will be the 676 Mission of the government, formulated by Mr. Chandy to give a new direction to his rule in the remaining two years of his term.

It has almost become certain that the State would witness a sizable cut in the Annual Plan.

The Finance Minister has already gone in for compressing spending to avoid mounting a huge revenue deficit. With inflation yet to be bridled, additional subsidy amounts will have to be provided to keep the prices of essential commodities down. Tourism industry, a major player in employment generation, will be severely hit. The construction industry which had been a major source for employment and income generation will also be seriously affected.

Cricket players warned against 'Honey Traps' During ICC World Cup

Wellington: The risk of corruption and malpractices in cricket is the biggest threat that next year's World Cup faces. In order to battle the menace, New Zealand police has warned cricketers to stay clear of suspicious persons - unknown women in particular - during the gala cricketing event Down Under.

With chances of fixers and bookies using female 'honey-traps' to possibly lure players, the New Zealand Herald reported that the police force in the country is on high alert. "We know they (fixers and bookies) bring in women into the country to fraternise with players," Superintendent Sandra Manderson - police chief for the event - was quoted as saying. "Afterwards, they'll ask the players to do something and if they refuse they'll say, 'Well, see these photographs? They will be with your wife, your neighbours, your parents.' There are millions and millions of dollars at stake in match fixing."

Despite an increased effort to combat fixing, cricket has seen several instances of high-profile cricketers being caught in its web. Kiwi batsman Lou Vincent was one such high-profile name who admitted that he was guilty of underperforming on the field.

While the International Cricket Council and its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) have taken some steps, the threat increases manifold in the run-up to a major event like the World Cup.

She also alleged that Dhoble had clicked her photographs and threatened to circulate it if she approached the police.

Further investigations are going on and we shall take appropriate steps accordingly," Deputy Commissioner of Police B Rajput said.
