Thrissur: Renowned litterateur Unnikrishnan Puthoor (81) breathed his last owing to age-related ailments at a private hospital here on Wednesday evening.
Born to Kallath Chulliparambil Sankunni Nair and Puthur Janaki Amma at Engandiyoor in Thrissur district in 1933, Unnikrishnan completed his education from Chavakkad Borad School and Palakkad Government Victoria College.
He was active in politics and was also trade union leader. He retired from service while serving as head of the Guruvayoor Devaswom Library Establishment Department. He also donned a number of roles as Guruvayoor Devaswom Governing council member, Kerala Sahitya Akademi general council member and so.
Unnikrishnan has penned around 700 stories and has won accolades including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, G Memorial Award, Padma Prabha Award.
He is survived by wife Thankamani Amma and sons Shaju and Biju.
