Anti-Modi Facebook post: Parrikar says arrest ordered by court, govt has no role
An anti-Modi Facebook post has landed Devu Chodankar, a shippig engineer from Goa, on the wrong side of the law as he remains absconding after being summoned twice by the court.
An FIR was lodged against Devu Chodankar for posting inflammatory comments on March 23 on the Facebook group page Goa+, which has a following of 47,000 people. On Thursday, Chodankar's anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a trial court in Goa.
Goan businessman Atul Pai Kane, a former head of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in Goa, filed the FIR against Chodankar claiming that the Facebook post was a larger gameplan to promote communal and social disharmony in the state.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar ruled out any role of government in the case, saying on Twitter that the anticipatory bail was rejected by court as per evidence, after Chodankar's lawyer Jatin Naik alleged that the case was a political revenge after his client had stopped supporting the BJP.
