Suicide in custody reveals police failure: Chennithala

Malappuram: Admitting flaw on the part of the police in the incident of a woman's suicide in custody at the Changaramkulam Police Station, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that measures that were supposed to be taken while taking a person into custody were not followed in Anisha's case.

The home minister told Manorama News that IG has been instructed to take strict actions against the Kuttipuram sub-inspector who visited the Changarakulam station flouting the law. Chennithala was speaking to the channel after making a sudden visit to the station.

Necessary actions against police personnel who were suspended in connection with the suicide case will be taken after the crime branch investigation. Chennithala pointed out that lot of complaints are being registered against this particular station and that strict action will be taken to prevent further complaints.

He also said that the government will extend all required support to Anisha's family.

In connection with the Changarakulam incident, Chennithala ordered that all police stations will be subjected to inspection once in two weeks by a senior police officer. Report of the inspection has to be given to the DGP and that information will be checked by the home minister.

Those who misuse the Janamaithiri police service will not be allowed to continue in police force, he added.
